Hastings Museum and Art Gallery, Hastings, East Sussex, BN34 1ET.
Celebrating local filmmaking talent, the launch of St Leonards International Film Festival presents an evening of groundbreaking celluloid-based films at the magnificent Durbar Hall in the Hastings Museum and Art Gallery at the heart of the sunny creative south coast of England.
One of the highlights of the event is a showcase of straight 8, an international film festival where each entry is shot on one cartridge of super 8 — without second takes, outside-camera editing or post-production; even the filmmakers see their films, if selected, for the very first time at one of straight 8’s premières.
The Straight 8 films are also screening at Soho Shorts, to attend please BOOK HERE.
The best crop of the 2012 straight 8 edition will be shown including “Speak & Spell in St Leonards”, a film shot in St Leonards on Sea directed by Mauricio Vincenzi and Darren Morris, aka The Bohemia Club Film Collective, which was featured in this year’s selection screened during the prestigious Cannes Lions on 22nd June 2012. Seven other entries shot locally will have their worldwide première on the night.
Expect an evening packed with cinematic wonders including: The Reel Thing – super 8 projections with live improvised music featuring the infamous Hugh Metcalfe; a specially curated installation of Hastings and St Leonards archive footage; experimental super-8 based VJing; the launch of the SLIFF 2013 Super8 Challenge; and a special homage to Brighton-based avant-garde film legend, the late Jeff Keen.
