Jamie King is a media evangelist and the founder of VODO. Vodo have had real success using BitTorrent as a legal distribution platform. Giving their content away for free has helped creators receive financial support from their audiences, potentially leading to a brand new revenue model for online content.

He directed and produced “Steal This Film”, a documentary covering the impact of file sharing and the movement against intellectual property. He also produced a number of shorts and co-directed “Dark Fibre”, his first fiction feature.

We help to produce and distribute short films throughout the country and abroad, and have a yearly film festival held in London. Oscar is the founder of Therefore Films.  Described by the Sunday Telegraph as “Britain’s next great filmmaker”, he’s a multi-award winning director living and working in London. If you’re feeling the pinch of the post-Xmas budget blues, Rotoreliefs have got  just the antidote!

It’s the 1st installment of monthly evenings of fantastic films from the fringe, friendly faces and fabulously funky music.

Watch the films, vote for your favourite, meet the filmmakers, then tell them what you really thought! As always there’ll be a mix of genres, and this month Fred Rowson will present the winning films of the 2011 Orbital London film challenge.

ENTRY £3

ASFF 2012 takes place in the historic city of York from 8 – 11 November. The screenings will cover a wide variety of genres and filmic styles, including: drama, documentary, animation, comedy, music video, thriller, experimental and artists’ film. The films will be showcased across 15 iconic locations in the city, from medieval halls to boutique cinemas and in addition to four days of screenings there will also be a series of master classes, workshops and networking with leading industry figures.

The winner will also receive £500 among other prizes and screenings at a number of other UK festivals and the runner-up will receive £250. A shortlist of finalists will be included on the ASFF Sampler DVD, which will be distributed with the December 2012 issue of Aesthetica Magazine, an international arts and culture publication.

GOLDEN KUKER SOFIA INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FILM FESTIVAL is organised by the Bulgarian Association of Independent Cartoon Animation Artists – BAICAA. More than 300 films from 50 countries enter the competition every year.

The festival consists of competitive screenings, informational and retrospective programmes, as well as  supporting events such as workshops, master-classes, lectures, round tables and presentations, which provide a rare opportunity to meet world renowned animation professionals, make contacts and present/watch the latest animation creations from all around the world.

 They like to attract as many animation folk as possible, ranging from BAFTA-winning Directors and Animation companies to students and especially freelancers who may otherwise “feel out of the loop” when not working for a studio or not able to attend festivals. The evenings are fun and informal, and are primarily about watching films in a lively and conversational atmosphere. Screenings usually run from 7.30 – 8.45pm, leaving plenty of time to catch up over a few drinks afterwards.

This seminar, also part of the 2011 festival, is hosted by The Reel and takes a look at how to break into the world of advertising.
The panel is chaired by Jamie Madge (Editor of The Reel) and made up of leading practitioners in the commercial field: Chris O’Reilly (Nexus co-founder), Jamie Clark (Head of Talent at Pulse), Seb Edwards (Director at Academy Films) and Kristian Brodie (Head of development for Agile Films).

Recognised internationally as a leading showcase of short films and renowned for the championing of emerging and established creative talent, Rushes Soho Shorts has built a phenomenal following and maintains a significant bridge between the independent and commercial filmmaking communities.

The annual not-for-profit festival celebrates the previous year’s best director in each of eight competitive categories.

Sundance London, a four-day film and music festival that takes place at The O2, 26 – 29 April, 2012, has announced a Short Film Competition, with the winning short film premiered at the event.
