SUNDANCE LONDON SHORT FILM COMP

Sundance London, a four-day film and music festival that takes place at The O2, 26 – 29 April, 2012, has announced a Short Film Competition, with the winning short film premiered at the event.

A partnership with Greenwich Council and Ravensbourne, the Sundance London Short Film Competition invites UK-based filmmakers to enter original pieces between three and five minutes in length around the theme ‘Story of Our Time.’ Films must be submitted via http://competition.sundance-london.com. Full guidelines can also be found there.

Greenwich Council will convene a panel of respected judges to select a shortlist of 25 nominated films to be considered for the final prize. A further panel, made up of Sundance Institute staff and the directors of the films being shown at Sundance London, will then decide upon the winner, to premiere as part of the Sundance London film programme.

Robert Redford, Founder and President of Sundance Institute, said: “We are living through arguably some of the most profound years of rapid change in our lifetimes. Reflections and stories from filmmakers around the unifying theme of ‘Story of Our Time,’ we hope will open a window into both the challenge and the inspiration of these days.”

Sundance Film Festival Director John Cooper said: “Short-form filmmaking is an art unto itself, and we’ve seen many great directors get their start with short films. Whether a short film or a feature, what we’re looking for above all else is originality – stories that stand out and need to be told.”

Cllr Chris Roberts, Leader of Greenwich Council, said, “We are thrilled that Sundance London is coming to Greenwich in 2012. Sundance London will form an important part of a cultural and artistic programme in which Greenwich’s heritage landmarks and its modern venues will work together to host a diverse and exciting programme of high-quality events. Nurturing new talent is an important theme for us, which is why both Greenwich Council and Ravensbourne are actively supporting the Sundance London Short Film Competition.”

Sundance London will feature the UK premieres of 14 films fresh from the 2012 Sundance Film Festival which takes place in January 2012 in Park City, Utah. Daily live music performances, discussions, panels and other public events will round out the four-day festival.

Passes, packages and tickets for both the film and music components of Sundance London are now on sale. Information regarding ticketing and programming for Sundance London may be found at www.sundance-london.com
